2004 Mercedes Benz AMG E55 - THE BEAST, Danny's pride & joy
America is the land of
opportunity. To be able to work hard and play hard is the American way of
life, and for those who get a taste of it - its a pretty sweet taste.
In 1993 ago I was living in a van without a cent to my name!
I love and have always loved
Mercedes Benz automobiles - despite the fact that Mercedes really sucked
last year on
the Formula 1 Grand Prix circuit, (2004). It does seem as though they are
back on track and Shumi is really struggling with the prancing horse
this year!
My gorgeous black
1984 Mercedes
500SL crumpet catcher was my fist Mercedes and I absolutely loved that
car. The next two, a Silver E320 and a black CLK 320 were fine cars, but
they lacked the grunt or bad-boy character of the 500SL. I just never had a passion
for either car.
So this time around I went
and bought THE BEAST, the Mercedes Benz AMG E55. Make no mistake - this is an animal - 469HP
and 515ftlb of torque. This car is all about the STOMP factor. Nobody even
looks at it twice - it really passes way under the radar, as it looks like any
other boring E-Class.
But what makes this AMG E55 so
seductive is what happens when your foot even just kisses the accelerator
pedal. It screams through 0-60mph in 4.2 seconds*. It stomps all over a Porsche 911 (but
the
911 Turbo is still king). Its only 2/10 of a second off the Dodge Viper to the
quarter mile*, which it flies through in 12.4 seconds* at 116mph* (*Road and
Track Test Report figures!*)
And the whole time you are
encased in legendary Mercedes luxury and elegance - understated and
refined. (not like our party photos!). Every time I climb in this car I
feel like a little kid and I just cannot get the grin off my face. Its
freakin' awesome! Damn I love this car!
December 2004
- AMG E55 at Moroso Drag Strip
I took my AMG E55 to the
Moroso Park Drag strip in Palm Beach in December of 2004 and on my first
ever run on a drag strip. I ran a 12.5 second 1/4 mile with a trap speed
of 114mph. Absolutely amazing for a four door grocery getter - and that was in Granny Mode - automatic
transmission with traction control ON!
May 2005 - AMG Challenge Homestead Miami
In May I had the
privilege of attending the AMG challenge event held at Homestead
Speedway in Miami. What blast - for the full report click here
