Heading South From Christchurch

Once business was out of the way, we hired a really cool VW campervan from Maui Camper Van Rentals, headed south out of Christchurch and hugged the East Coast of New Zealand as much as we could. South Island is wonderfully unspoiled and uninhabited - only one million of the 4 Million Kiwis live there

The beaches are wild and open, much like the Transkei wild coast. Some of the rivers are un-bridged at their mouths so we had to make detours back from the beach to the national road each time we came across a river mouth.
